Gaming the Mind met Tea Creature Studios back in 2019, and got to talking about their aspirations to make a game that would help children understand and talk about their emotions.

The end result turned out to be A Hero’s Guide To Gardening, for which we were happy to provide feedback regarding its mental health themes.

The game is an interactive comic following Noomi, who heads to summer camp with the hopes of becoming an adventurer. Instead, it’s gardening she must learn to master! Can she help her friends manage their gardens, and learn about coping with fear, anger, and sadness, along the way?

We also provided advice on general wellness during development. Speaking to us onstage at EGX, Rachel Clancy (co-founder of Tea Creature Studios) said: “For our game we got involved with Gaming the Mind… and once piece of advice we were given was to make sure that as we’re going through the process, we are taking care of our mental health… you can’t pour from an empty cup. You have to make sure you’re all right before you can go forward and unpack that stuff for other people.”

They secured the Sky Women in Technology scholarship which helped fund this ambitious project.

You can play it for free on itch.io as well as on iOS.
